• Haunch of Venison, Barber Osgerby book

Matt Watkins of Haunch of Venison gallery designed this elegant book for Ascent, an ambitious exhibition of work by acclaimed London based designers Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby. Two of the most innovative designers working in Britain today, Barber & Osgerby were recently chosen to design the Olympic Torch for the London 2012 Games, and have produced work for Vitra, Cappellini and many other major producers.

The book features superb photography by Peter Mallet and was produced in two versions, one with a foil-blocked case bound cloth cover and one with a foil-blocked Colorplan Dark Grey cover.

The text pages, on PhoeniXmotion Xenon by GF Smith, feature a gloss Reticulation varnish throughout (look out for our upcoming Print School feature on varnishing).

  • Marmalade London

In the fashion world, it’s the small details that make all the difference. Design agency Marmalade London took advantage of Team’s extensive range of in-house finishing services to produce a whole range of items for their re-branding of the Italian high fashion lingerie company, Lingerie D’Elia.

The items, all printed and finished by Team, include foil blocked business cards, information and gift cards, die-cut clothing tags, foil blocked and die-cut envelopes, letterheads, postcards and a self-collapsing box. And to give that extra element of Italian luxuriousness, all the items were printed on the wonderfully tactile Fedrigoni Century Cotton Wove. As the Italians would say – Bellissima!

  • Cofra brochure

This brochure for Cofra, designed by Mark Starbuck and Anthony Hodgson at Face Media, is a brilliant example of getting the most out of Team – using a combination of digital print, litho, foiling and hand finishing.

The slipcase and cover is Sirio Pietra 210gsm, silver foiled and hand finished in-house. The internal shortened pages are litho printed metallic silver on Sirio Pietra 140gsm with the main text pages digitally printed onto Splendorgel Digital 140gsm (all papers by Fedrigoni).

  • Lee Cooper look-book

This Lee Cooper look-book was designed by 999 in Manchester and printed on 350gsm Stephen Sultry Grey and 130gsm Arctic Volume White, loop stitched with a gloss black foil to finish.

  • The Biltmore Hotel

Superb quality, luxuriously finished with an expert eye on the details that matter. Does this apply to (a) The Biltmore Hotel… or (b) The design and production of the book. Answer… both-!! Designed by Curious, this oversize case-bound book and slip case was printed and hand finished in-house by Team. The brochure and slip case were covered in Suedel Luxe Les Classiques Flannel and the text pages were french folded (printed both sides) on 148gm Mohawk Superfine Smooth White. The cover and alternate pages were individually foiled in gunmetal silver.

  • Autumnal press pack for Timberland

A lovely, autumnal combination of Colorplan colours feature on this Timberland Fall 2011 press pack and envelope for No Days Off, all produced and finished in-house by Team.

The invite cover uses a meaty 700gsm Colorplan Bagdad Brown with Cyclus Offset text and features a white foil on the front.

The envelope is on Colorplan Mandarin New Leather Emboss and has the Timberland logo in brown foil with fastening disks, rivets and brown cord all produced with precision by Team’s finishing department.

  • Emmerson Hodge fashion magazine

Issue one of the men’s fashion magazine Emmerson Hodge features the model Ryan Mertz. The new magazine, which will feature a different single model in each issue, is the work of creative director Ashley Hodge and photographer Nicky Emmerson. The magazine was printed on Ability Offset uncoated stock, which gives a warm, natural interpretation of the subject matter. A coating, or sealer was applied  to provide protection and assist drying, especially important with the density of the colours used. Gold cover title foiled in-house by Team.

  • Clarity Surveillance book

Mark McGrath Design’s challenge was to develop a brand identity and new corporate book that communicated precisely the qualities of their client, Clarity Surveillance, a provider of discrete surveillance services.

Mark was delighted with the result; ‘We wanted to convey a lot of quite strong messages about the values of the brand, such as clarity, professionalism and impartiality but most crucially the fact that the company needs to remain ‘invisible’ at all times. Team were very helpful in helping me to achieve the result I wanted by the best use of processes and finishing’.

The choice of white foil blocking on white stock puts the message of invisibility across perfectly; only when the light falls across the page in exactly the right way does the complete message reveal itself in it’s true context with the printed metallic blue  ‘double I’ of the identity. The result is distinctly visible; a case-bound, singer sewn book that is an impressive combination of intelligent design and fine attention to print and finishing detail. Printed on FSC stocks.

  • The Lancasters property brochure

Team were very accommodating in helping MadeThought to produce this brochure for a luxury property development, The Lancasters. It features a heavyweight 6pp outer of 540gsm Colorplan Ebony duplexed onto 350gsm Colorplan White. And just to make the cover even heavier Team hand-glued 270gm Colorplan Bright White onto the front of each cover page. All mod cons, including intricate black and silver foils and interior furnished with a soft covering of 250gsm Naturalis Absolute Smooth White and 170gsm Ability Offset.

  • Blue print for success…

Put an imaginative designer together with a like-minded printer and what do you get? A fabulous brochure with blue foil and a specially mixed blue ink printed onto Colorplan Imperial blue. (See our Print School page on the new website for more creative suggestions for using different coloured foils) Studio Monkeys were over the moon with the result, as was their client. I’ll resist all corny temptation to describe the colour of that moon…

  • H2 Yacht brochure box

Designer Paul Cojeen was looking for an elegant solution to house two brochures for a luxury yacht development. Team’s in-house Presentation department provided several suggested options. The result is a box reflecting the luxury of the product.

Designers talk about Process is Form at Manchester event
The Manchester event will feature a talk by Design Project, the designers of the book, on the thinking behind the project which analyses the relationship between the process and mechanics of print production and the practice of design and communication.

Practical and informative, but beautifully designed and printed, the book provides an excellent platform to show off Team’s printing capabilities and also demonstrates their keenness to get ‘stuck in’ to help designers realise their printed projects, no matter how complicated they may be. The extensive use of special colours (24 colours, plus different foils and finishes throughout) really gives a taste of the comprehensive print and finishing services Team can offer.

So if you want to find out more about how a highly complex book of this nature comes together, make sure you don’t miss this one-off opportunity to hear the designers talk specifically about the project.

Special discount offer for event attendees

  • Let your fingers do the talking…

This catalogue for Haunch Of Venison galleries deserves its pride of place in this month’s showcase for the great combination of excellent printing and foiling on a delectable choice of papers from the GF Smith collection. The choice of the wonderfully smooth Beckett Expression for the dust jacket particularly caught the eye of the paper-obsessed editor of this e-bulletin.

With a Colorplan Coltskin embossed cover and Naturalis Smooth Recycled text pages, this provided the perfect canvas for Team to show off their foiling and printing craftsmanship. Spin’s Natasha Day explains why they chose Team for this job; ‘We had to design and print the book pretty quickly and with this in mind we thought we wouldn’t be able to have any special finishes. However, Team managed to turn the job around quickly and we were able to use a gold foil on the dust jacket and cover. We were very pleased with the final result and the images reproduced extremely well on the Naturalis.’

It’s a piece we’d recommend you pick up, close your eyes and quietly drift off on a wave off smoothness and texture (but not for too long, we wouldn’t want you to miss our excellent printing or Spin’s superb design).

  • Printing for the private party season

It must be the party season judging by the amount of invites Team have been printing lately. Team are specialists in all the processes that make invites the best-dressed
in town and this recent selection features foiling, embossing, duplexing and gilt-edging.

The Brand Experience Company produced a ‘keepsake invitation piece’ for Bentley customers at an exclusive driving event at Abu Dhabi’s esteemed Yas Island.

Christie’s in-house design studio were also delighted with what Team brought to the party; ‘Team managed to do an exceptional job on the foiling, emphasising the high precision at the heart of the piece.’

  • Challenge of the Fedrigoni jigsaw

We challenged the lovely people in the sales office at Team to have a go at setting a world-record
in putting together the fiendishly frustrating Fedrigoni promotional jigsaw. Big mistake.

Estimates piled up un-estimated, important sales call went unanswered. Chaos. Word on the street was that one of the Fedrigoni people had completed it in around twenty minutes. Sorry, but we’re just not having that. Who’ve they got working there? Albert Einstein? Our very own Fraser Talbot (a bright lad and no mistake) took the prize
with a splendid 35 mins, 45 secs. **STOP PRESS** NEW RECORD – GLEN PEARSON 34 mins, 14 secs. It’s worthwhile completing to see how London based illustrator, Sarah King, has used names of the Fedrigoni  range to make up a rather intriguing piece of psychedelia. Fittingly, Woodstock is one of the grades and this should put you in the mood for the festival season. Man.
