Mark McGrath Design’s challenge was to develop a brand identity and new corporate book that communicated precisely the qualities of their client, Clarity Surveillance, a provider of discrete surveillance services.

Mark was delighted with the result; ‘We wanted to convey a lot of quite strong messages about the values of the brand, such as clarity, professionalism and impartiality but most crucially the fact that the company needs to remain ‘invisible’ at all times. Team were very helpful in helping me to achieve the result I wanted by the best use of processes and finishing’.

The choice of white foil blocking on white stock puts the message of invisibility across perfectly; only when the light falls across the page in exactly the right way does the complete message reveal itself in it’s true context with the printed metallic blue ‘double I’ of the identity. The result is distinctly visible; a case-bound, singer sewn book that is an impressive combination of intelligent design and fine attention to print and finishing detail. Printed on FSC stocks.

Designers talk about Process is Form at Manchester event
The Manchester event will feature a talk by Design Project, the designers of the book, on the thinking behind the project which analyses the relationship between the process and mechanics of print production and the practice of design and communication.

Practical and informative, but beautifully designed and printed, the book provides an excellent platform to show off Team’s printing capabilities and also demonstrates their keenness to get ‘stuck in’ to help designers realise their printed projects, no matter how complicated they may be. The extensive use of special colours (24 colours, plus different foils and finishes throughout) really gives a taste of the comprehensive print and finishing services Team can offer.

So if you want to find out more about how a highly complex book of this nature comes together, make sure you don’t miss this one-off opportunity to hear the designers talk specifically about the project.

Special discount offer for event attendees
This limited edition book will be available at a special discounted price of five pounds at the events and will be on general release from Team at a price of twenty pounds following the London launch. To reserve a copy Process is Form and your place at either of these special events please email simonb@team-impression.com to confirm your attendance.

The choice of the wonderfully smooth Beckett Expression for the dust jacket particularly caught the eye of the paper-obsessed editor of this e-bulletin.

With a Colorplan Coltskin embossed cover and Naturalis Smooth Recycled text pages, this provided the perfect canvas for Team to show off their foiling and printing craftsmanship. Spin’s Natasha Day explains why they chose Team for this job; ‘We had to design and print the book pretty quickly and with this in mind we thought we wouldn’t be able to have any special finishes. However, Team managed to turn the job around quickly and we were able to use a gold foil on the dust jacket and cover. We were very pleased with the final result and the images reproduced extremely well on the Naturalis.’

It’s a piece we’d recommend you pick up, close your eyes and quietly drift off on a wave off smoothness and texture (but not for too long, we wouldn’t want you to miss our excellent printing or Spin’s superb design).

Almost 800 pages long, (yes, that’s eight hundred), Music’s case bound promo book grew ever so slightly from the 32 pager they first intended to produce. Team met the challenge, producing the 32 thread sewn sections with foiled hard cover to Music’s usual meticulous specification.

Matt Beardsell of Music explains the thinking behind the book;

‘At Music we like a list, as you’ll know if you’ve visited our website recently. The idea for this book started life as a very short list of stuff we really like, compiled by people who work at Music. Before we knew it we had a list so long we could have written a whole book. So we did.

Although the book has ended up 760 pages longer than first planned, we’ve had a lot of fun pulling it together, finding out more about each other and realising how much we have in common (although debates over milk chocolate digestives vs dark chocolate digestives will rage on).

So, with very little (if any) editing the full list of Stuff We Really Like is now out there. The initial response to it has been great and we’re encouraging friends and colleagues to point out anything we’ve missed for inclusion in volume 2.’

Text printed on Munken Pure, endpapers on Stephen Innocent White. The run of 500 books was divided into three different paper over board and dust jacket options.
