• Gerald Cinamon book: SEA

Graphic Design Gerald Cinamon’ is a new book designed by SEA. Cinamon is an American graphic designer and typographer who was the Chief Designer a Penguin Books. He studied under both Paul Rand and Armin Hofmann. He is also credited with bringing the Swiss design style to the UK. In his honour, Team were delighted to be asked to produce this stunning book, expertly designed by Danny McNeil at SEA.

The book was lithographically printed 4 colour process plus a special Pantone red that was integrated into all the CMYK images to create a 5 colour separation. It was printed on Munken Polar paper and PUR bound with an 8 page gate-fold cover.

  • Privé: Stationery

There is definitely one thing that a luxury holiday company is going to need… and that is luxury business cards! Fully produced in-house using all our own facilities, these cards were foil blocked using fluted dies to create a raised impression, then duplexed with two contrasting sheets of paper – 350gm Curious Touch Nude and 540gsm Colorplan Frost with fabric emboss.

  • 16 Wyndham Place book: Phage

The ability to combine off-line finishing processes along with digital printing was the reason Phage chose Team to produce this property book. 52 pages of text digitally printed with our HP Indigo 7000 onto Zen showed off the images perfectly.

This was combined with a paper over board cover, wrapped in Corvon Metal X and gold foil blocked and lined with Corvon Iridescent Silver. The text section was then swiss bound using a Wicotex cloth to finish.

  • Brazzaville Protocol agenda: Richard Attias & Associates

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Brazzaville Protocol, Richard Attias & Associates (New York) have produced a 2014 agenda to compliment the achievements of this protocol. The production management and planning in this project left no room for error and required the efforts of not only Team resources, but regular contact and discussion with the client in New York. Richard Attias & Associates required the services of Team to advise on materials and techniques which would enhance the overall look and feel of the brochure itself.

The agenda was produced as a case bound book with a Winter & Co. material used on the outer cover, debossed with the company logo. The inner leaves were printed on a premium uncoated with all pages gilded in silver to enhance the finished piece.

Timings and distribution of the brochure were critical to its success, as transportation to the Congo itself required careful planning and execution. Through Team’s network of distribution channels we were able to meet the criteria of our client and deliver the goods ahead of schedule.

  • American Psycho box set: Mr Porter

Team’s versatile services were recently used to great effect by on-line fashion brand Mr Porter. To coincide with the opening of the West End musical version of American Psycho, we produced sets of custom made presentation boxes, each containing postcards and business cards. The boxes were foiled in two colours and constructed using Colorplan Bright White and Ebony.

  • British Fashion Council books: Music

Team continues it’s long standing relationship with leading Manchester design agency Music and British Fashion Council by producing two new projects – the guide book for London Fashion Week (Autumn / Winter) and the book, London Collections: Men 2013.

The London Collections: Men book showcases Team’s full in-house services. 72 pages of text, quarter bound in red cloth, with front and back covers made from 3000 micron greyboard. The front cover is clear foil blocked and incorporates a recessed area containing a hand inserted custom pin badge. The book also features a custom pocket on the inside back cover to contain additional literature, also produced by Team for the event.

  • 70 Mark Lane & Carmelite Riverside brochures: dn&co.

Team have recently produced two luxury property brochures with London agency dn&co.

70 Mark Lane consists of an eight page gate-folded cover with 40 pages of text, printed four colour process with one special throughout on Naturalis Absolute White from GF Smith.

Carmelite Riverside was swiss bound using burgundy cloth and housed in an eight page cover with a large debossed area over the logo. Team’s Komori B1 printing press was ideal for this project as the job contained four colour process, two special PMS colours plus an in-line coating. All this was possible in one single pass though six ink units, plus an in-line emulsion coating. The paper for this project was Zen, also from GF Smith.

  • JD Sports annual report & accounts: JD Sports

Team continue to build on strong relationships with JD Sports by producing their annual report & accounts for the 4th successive year. The cover incorporates a yellow foil block on top of a solid black print and was quarter bound with yellow binding cloth.

  • WorkHouse literature: Scene

This Tile Collection brochure was produced in conjunction with Scene designer Gemma Fabbri as a showcase for the WorkHouse at Clerkenwell Design Week, London.
Printed throughout using Team’s Indigo digital press, the cover and business cards were printed with digital white ink onto Ebony Colorplan and each cover was personalised, using a library of different tile patterns.

The accompanying cards were all duplexed in-house to give extra thickness and create the visual effect of black one side, white reverse.

  • Baselworld exhibitions brochure: Made Thought

This Made Thought project for Baselworld highlights Team’s strength in both printing and finishing capabilities. The brochure was printed throughout on Omnia from Fenner Paper in four colour process with the cover gloss laminated and silver foil blocked.

The 64 page brochure, printed on Colorplan Grey and perfect bound by Team explains the project and showcases some of the 64 postcards commissioned from young, emerging artists from around Europe, showing images which reveal real truths about where they live and work and their relationship to their environment.

Mark McGrath Design’s challenge was to develop a brand identity and new corporate book that communicated precisely the qualities of their client, Clarity Surveillance, a provider of discrete surveillance services.

Mark was delighted with the result; ‘We wanted to convey a lot of quite strong messages about the values of the brand, such as clarity, professionalism and impartiality but most crucially the fact that the company needs to remain ‘invisible’ at all times. Team were very helpful in helping me to achieve the result I wanted by the best use of processes and finishing’.

  • Let your fingers do the talking…

This catalogue for Haunch Of Venison galleries deserves its pride of place in this month’s showcase for the great combination of excellent printing and foiling on a delectable choice of papers from the GF Smith collection. The choice of the wonderfully smooth Beckett Expression for the dust jacket particularly caught the eye of the paper-obsessed editor of this e-bulletin.

With a Colorplan Coltskin embossed cover and Naturalis Smooth Recycled text pages, this provided the perfect canvas for Team to show off their foiling and printing craftsmanship. Spin’s Natasha Day explains why they chose Team for this job; ‘We had to design and print the book pretty quickly and with this in mind we thought we wouldn’t be able to have any special finishes. However, Team managed to turn the job around quickly and we were able to use a gold foil on the dust jacket and cover. We were very pleased with the final result and the images reproduced extremely well on the Naturalis.’

It’s a piece we’d recommend you pick up, close your eyes and quietly drift off on a wave off smoothness and texture (but not for too long, we wouldn’t want you to miss our excellent printing or Spin’s superb design).

  • Printing for the private party season

The Brand Experience Company produced a ‘keepsake invitation piece’ for Bentley customers at an exclusive driving event at Abu Dhabi’s esteemed Yas Island.

  • Challenge of the Fedrigoni jigsaw

We challenged the lovely people in the sales office at Team to have a go at setting a world-record
in putting together the fiendishly frustrating Fedrigoni promotional jigsaw. Big mistake.

Estimates piled up un-estimated, important sales call went unanswered. Chaos. Word on the street was that one of the Fedrigoni people had completed it in around twenty minutes. Sorry, but we’re just not having that. Who’ve they got working there? Albert Einstein? Our very own Fraser Talbot (a bright lad and no mistake) took the prize
with a splendid 35 mins, 45 secs. **STOP PRESS** NEW RECORD – GLEN PEARSON 34 mins, 14 secs. It’s worthwhile completing to see how London based illustrator, Sarah King, has used names of the Fedrigoni  range to make up a rather intriguing piece of psychedelia. Fittingly, Woodstock is one of the grades and this should put you in the mood for the festival season. Man.

This new promotion (designed and created by Design Project) is being launched by Fedrigoni in Leeds in conjunction with the new Team book – another good reason to come along on Wednesday 14th July and pick up copies of both these highly unusual printed pieces. This new paper promotion incorporates a box containing a colour demonstration booklet and uses fluorescent printed imagery and embossing to show how the surface properties of this paper can give excellent reproduction possibilities. • We really like ‘Stuff We Really Like’.

Almost 800 pages long, (yes, that’s eight hundred), Music’s case bound promo book grew ever so slightly from the 32 pager they first intended to produce. Team met the challenge, producing the 32 thread sewn sections with foiled hard cover to Music’s usual meticulous specification.

    Matt Beardsell of Music explains the thinking behind the book;

‘At Music we like a list, as you’ll know if you’ve visited our website recently. The idea for this book started life as a very short list of stuff we really like, compiled by people who work at Music. Before we knew it we had a list so long we could have written a whole book. So we did.

Although the book has ended up 760 pages longer than first planned, we’ve had a lot of fun pulling it together, finding out more about each other and realising how much we have in common (although debates over milk chocolate digestives vs dark chocolate digestives will rage on).

So, with very little (if any) editing the full list of Stuff We Really Like is now out there. The initial response to it has been great and we’re encouraging friends and colleagues to point out anything we’ve missed for inclusion in volume 2.’

Text printed on Munken Pure, endpapers on Stephen Innocent White. The run of 500 books was divided into three different paper over board and dust jacket options.

  • Team to sponsor Manchester showing of ‘Typeface’ film.

The next Independent Northern Creative event, sponsored by Team, will be a screening of the internationally acclaimed film Typeface. Directed by Justine Nagan, the film is a fascinating documentary in progress about the Hamilton Woodtype Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.

Following the museum’s attempt to preserve the art of letterpress printing, the film gives an intriguing glimpse of life in this small mid-western town and demonstrates how the museum’s role in preserving and promoting traditional craft techniques have had a significant impact on helping to shape the future of contemporary design.

Find out more information on the film here.

The film will be shown at Shillington College,
1 Portland Street, Manchester – May 14th  6.30pm. Tickets are strictly limited for this event and cost £10 (free to members of INC).

    Book through the INC website.

  • Print matters (but needn’t cost the earth).

In line with their broader environmental policy, Team now carries FSC/recycled paper as standard everyday printing stocks. These high quality, high performance stocks are offered for use on all  appropriate projects unless other branded papers are specified by the client. We carry FSC Gloss, Silk and Uncoated or Recyled FSC Gloss, Silk and Uncoated in a comprehensive range of weights. And because of the volumes involved in carrying them as standard stock it won’t cost you any more.  But you’ll make a real saving on your environmental footprint.

To order Print Matters, our handy little booklet showing printed samples of each grade and a full explanation of how we take our environmental responsibilities seriously, email Simon Bucktrout.

  • The Brand Nursery delighted with Team’s smooth handling of BMW project.

Taking advantage of Team’s in-house digital and paper over board services, The Brand Nursery have produced a limited edition presentation box for BMW.

‘Working with organisations like BMW we need to ensure that the quality of our thinking and the quality of the end product is central to every project we do for the brand. For the launch of the 2010 BMW 5 Series Saloon we devised a smart structural solution to house a USB device containing model specific data for the UK Press. The functional aspects of the design were just as important as the look and feel to communicate the appropriate image for the BMW brand. Team Impression clearly understood our requirements from the outset and provided us with a good working partnership that enabled us to deliver this project under tight time constraints and on budget.’

  • Team produce digitally printed book for Blast.

Printed on a variety of Arjowiggins digital stocks, the book entitled Inspired by Design features work from ten leading practitioners in the visual arts, including John Ross, Bruno Maag, Jeremy Tankard and Vince Frost.

As part of the same campaign for Arjowiggins, Blast also produced a new swatch for their digital range of papers. The print brief presented interesting challenges for Team’s Indigo operators and finishing department. Giff, Blast’s Design Director, was impressed with Team’s response. ‘Paper swatches can be tricky briefs at the best of times, with their particular layout and binding issues. We knew our idea to spread a full-colour image over a wide variety of uncoated and coated digital stocks would require some serious attention to detail at the print stage.’ This is where Team’s comprehensive in-house facilities and experienced operators came to the fore. ‘We were very pleased with the result,’ Giff commented. ‘Not only with the quality
of print and finishing, but also with the way Team responded, offering invaluable advice at every stage right up to the binding.’

Inspired by Design has been shortlisted for the Design Week Awards 2010.

  • Team print limited edition poster for Counter-Print.

Team think this is one of the coolest websites around and were delighted to be asked to print their new promotional poster.

This limited edition poster is a collaboration between the German illustrator Robert Hanson and New Creative. Printed by Team in black and silver, at A1 on white Chromolux.

Be careful before you visit the site, or you’ll find yourself wasting half a day looking through the list of wonderful, and often rare art and design books, journals and ephemera. Hmmm… my Herb Lubalin book is worth how much now? See website.

  • Team begin second year of printing Grafik magazine.

‘Working with Team has made me reconsider the age-old preconception about all printers being as bad as each other – the people at Team have a refreshingly can-do attitude, and what’s more they like a challenge. Our readers have a keen eye for print quality, and Team has never let us down in that department. And the ability to make full use of its many and varied in-house finishing services over the last year and a half has transformed Grafik from a good looking magazine into a beautiful one.’ Caroline Roberts, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Grafik magazine.

Team’s involvement with Grafik over the past twelve months has seen the magazine set new standards in quality of finishing and bold use of spot colours, foils and varnishes. The images show the evolution of the magazine in that period. Back copies available via the Grafik website.

  • Team print promotional book for Golden.

Leeds based agency, Golden, chose Team to print Golden Moments, a book that uses a series of diverse images which capture and record their successful first year in business.

The cover of the perfect bound book features a delicately detailed foil. The fine text and tiny reversed logo on the slip cover is printed in opaque gold on 120gsm Colorit Black.
